2008 Bird-a-Thon!
May 2008

We would like to invite you all to participate in the 2008 Northern Arizona Audubon Bird-a-Thon. This year the fundraising event will be held throughout May . Help us by participating in this exciting annual event. Click here to read the rules.

Birders at Mormon LakeWHAT IS A BIRDATHON? The Northern Arizona Audubon Society (NAAS) Birdathon is a competition in which team members solicit pledges and donations, either on a per species basis or for a fixed dollar amount, from individuals or organizations. A sample pledge letter is available for download. Teams then see how many species they can see or hear during a specified time period. Last year the Birdathon raised over $3,000. Our goal this year is to break this record!

PURPOSE OF THE BIRDATHON:
To raise funds for the following:

  • To restore and maintain important bird habitats, such as those at Page Springs.
  • To fund NAAS education projects like the Audubon Adventures materials provided to area schools.
  • To provide educational materials and equipment for programs at the new Page Springs ramada.
  • To support monthly meetings in Flagstaff and Sedona at which invited speakers talk about wildlife and conservation. (Meetings are free and open to the public.)
  • To identify as many bird species as possible during a single 24-hour period.
  • To expand involvement of new and experienced birders.
  • To raise community awareness of NAAS presence and mission.
  • To have fun!

CONTESTS & PRIZES

Teams from Sedona, Flagstaff, and Cottonwood are competing in the event. Incentive prizes will be given to members of the teams who see the highest numbers of species, the most unusual species, raise the most money, or have the most creatively-named team. (Last year’s winner was “The Cardinal Offenders.”) To support this event, several local businesses have donated prizes.
