2007 Bird-A-Thon Rules
- The 2005 Bird-a-Thon will take place in the month of May. Each team should count birds on ONE day. All counting should take place during a single 24-hour period between midnight and midnight.
- The Northern Arizona Audubon Bird-a-Thon area encompasses Coconino, Yavapai, and Navajo Counties. All counts should take place within this region.
- Each team should consist of 2-5 people. At least one participant on each team should be a member of the Northern Arizona Audubon Society.
All team participants should be together while counting birds. Team members may join or drop out during the day of the count, but only the main group is allowed to count birds (additional species seen by individuals while they were separated from the main group are not countable).
- For prize qualification, at least 90% of the species total for each team must be seen or heard by all team members. If more than 10% of the species are missed by one or more team members, the group list should be reduced until the 90% rule is in effect. For example, if team X saw 100 species, but only 87 of them were seen by all members, the final species total for that team is 96 species (87 = 90% of 96). All species seen by the team are admissible for the total species count for the Bird-a-Thon, however.
- All teams should be registered (click here for Team Registration Form) before the first day of the Bird-a-Thon.
- Although not required, we encourage all teams to actively solicit pledges in support of their team, or the Bird-a-Thon in general. The Bird-a-Thon is a fundraising event for the Northern Arizona Audubon Society, and the money raised will be used to fund continuing education and conservation efforts sponsored by the society across northern Arizona.
- We would appreciate documentation of any rare or unusual species. Click here for a documentation form.
